YOU MIGHT BE WONDERING...

THE A'S TO YOUR Q'S

DID YOU DIE?

Hmmm. Yes and no. While I experienced cardiac death, I'm still here, so let's go with no.

DID YOU HAVE A HEART ATTACK?

No. I experienced Sudden Cardiac Arrest.

WHAT IS SUDDEN CARDIAC ARREST?

Cardiac arrest is caused when the heart’s electrical system malfunctions. The heart stops beating properly. Hence the name: The heart’s pumping function is “arrested,” or stopped.

In cardiac arrest, death can result quickly if proper steps aren’t taken immediately. Cardiac arrest may be reversed if CPR (cardiopulmonary resuscitation) is performed and a defibrillator is used to shock the heart and restore a normal heart rhythm within a few minutes.

DO I NEED A CERTIFICATION TO GIVE CPR?

No, but you do need to be trained. We offer training with hands-on practice. Contact us for more information.

AM I GOING TO HURT THE PERSON WHEN GIVING CPR, I'M AFRAID I'LL DO MORE HARM THAN GOOD?

NO! Unfortunately, this is the exact reason most bystanders do nothing and wait for emergency responders to arrive. During this time the vital organs, like the brain, are deprived of oxygen and brain damage and death occur. The way I look at it...You Can't Hurt Dead...do something, anything is better than nothing.
